What is PAC

The Penn Aerospace Club (PAC) is a student-lead organization at the University of Pennsylvania, founded in 2014 to build a vibrant aerospace community on campus. We continue to strive towards this mission through engineering projects, design competitions, student-led seminars, and industry events.

PAC is one of the most dynamic, visible, and quickly growing student groups at the University of Pennsylvania. Last year, we executed 10 balloon launches as part of the Great Balloon Challenge while also launching seven rockets to achieve Level 1 HPR (high powered rocket) certification. This year, we have initiatives to design, build, and fly aircraft and rockets, while improving our balloon. PAC turns students into engineers by providing hands-on project experience. In the long term, we aim to grow Penn’s interest in aerospace and further increase the complexity of our projects.

Through bi-monthly speaker events, PAC has hosted executives from Boeing and Northrop Grumman, Scientists from NASA, Penn professors, and more. While also holding fun social events and partnerships with classes at Penn, the club is bounded by a common fascination for all aspects of aerospace.

Quinn Coyle - PAC Lead

My name is Quinn and am a Senior from Minneapolis, Minnesota studying Mechanical Engineering. I am currently co-director of PAC, and previously served as director of the Operations team and before that had roles in logistics, finance, and served as a liaison for the aircraft team. In addition to PAC I am a tour guide for Kite and Key, part of the Penn Running Club, and in Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Fun fact: I am a licensed forklift operator!

Omkar Savant - PAC Lead

Omkar is a junior studying Mechanical Engineering, Operations Research in Wharton, and pursuing a Master’s degree in Robotics. He joined the balloon team as a freshman and has enjoyed working with the altitude control and communication teams since then. He hopes to pursue work related to autonomous cars in the future. His other interests include backpacking, practicing the guitar, and eating.

Audrey Walsh - Operations Team Lead

Audrey is a sophomore studying Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics at the University of Pennsylvania. As Ops lead, Audrey is in charge of handling club finances, organizing speaker events, and facilitating community outreach, among other tasks. Some of her other interests include Intramural Soccer, President of the University of Pennsylvania Chapter of Best Buddies International, and the Penn Catholic Newman Center.

George Pandya - Rocket Team Lead

Major: MEAM and OIDD

Originally from the Denver area, I’ve always been interested in aerospace and building cool things. Before coming here I used to work in aerospace, where I got to do some interesting work building rockets and payloads including the world’s largest and most powerful sport rocket and the first handheld Cherenkov radiation detector to go to space. On campus I’m involved in Penn Electric Racing, as well as nonprofit work.
